I am worried about hard drive failure and losing my data.
How do I backup my home movie projects?
How can I get maximum performance from my external hard drives for my video editing program?
DNF:
Using an external RAID array can resolve these concerns. Using a hardware RAID at RAID 1 will create a one to one backup of your data, mirroring everything on your hard drive to another disk. If one fails the other one takes over. Using RAID 0 (striping) enables fast disk performance by cutting your data into blocks and distributing the information sequentially. This approach allows faster disk performance (instead of having your data jump around all over your disk and causing slowdowns). With hot-swappable drives, you won’t even need to shut down your system. With units like the FireFly products, the DynaBacker, or Sprint models in our Affordable RAID category, it is simple to add this capability to your existing machines.

In an office environment with a LAN (local area network) you can add Network Attached Storage (NAS) like one of our FlexStor-NAS or StorBank units. These file servers will offload the file traffic from your client or server machines and are accessible by any user in your network. Since a file server is dedicated to handling user files, there is no bottleneck; with choices ranging from devices supporting a few gigabytes to multiple-terabytes, there is an easy-to-implement NAS for every environment.
Our tape backup system is very slow, and we need faster access to our archives, is there any way to speed this up?
DNF:
One of the limitations of a tape backup system is the speed. There isn’t a way to make the tape faster, but using Virtual Tape Library (VTL) Appliances can enable faster backups. VTLs actually use hard disks instead of tapes, but they interact seamlessly with your backup software. Using this option will save time and shorten your backup window. After backing up to disk, you can also add tape export capabilities for an additional failsafe.
